Switch browsers

Switch browsers without starting over.

Lucium brings over the bookmarks and history of your current browser. If it keeps its tabs in Spaces and Lucium can read its format, Spaces, pinned tabs, folders, favorites and split views come along too. No account.

In three steps

Step 1: Install Lucium

Download it, open the disk image, drag Lucium to Applications and open it.

Step 2: Import

At first launch, choose your current browser. Later: Lucium menu › Import from Another Browser…. Quit your former browser first, so that its files are up to date.

Step 3: Check the preview

Lucium shows what comes in before importing. The report says what was left out, and why.

The first launch sheet, which offers to bring over the bookmarks and history of your current browser, or to start empty
At first launch
The import sheet: a bookmarks file ready to import, 12 bookmarks in 3 folders, and nothing imported before you confirm
Later, from the Lucium menu
Right after the import: the new Space “Imported bookmarks”, with its pinned tabs and its folders
The bookmarks arrive in a new Space

What comes along

  • Bookmarks, gathered in a new Space, and history
  • An HTML bookmarks file, which every browser can export
  • From a browser with Spaces whose format Lucium reads: Spaces with their colors and themes, pinned tabs, nested folders, favorites and split views
  • Tweaks, from a file you choose (their JavaScript only if you ask, and switched off)
  • A second import adds nothing twice

Lucium looks for the browsers installed on this Mac. For another one, choose its bookmarks or history file.

What stays behind

  • Cookies and sessions: sign in to your sites again
  • Passwords: go through a CSV file, exported from your browser or your password manager, into Lucium’s vault, or keep your password manager
  • Extensions: install them again from the online extension store
  • Features of your former browser alone, such as its notes or its AI assistant

Missing a feature of your former browser? Report it: gaps get votes, just like ideas.
