The roadmap.

What has just shipped, what comes next and what is under study. Dates are targets, not promises.

  1. Already done

    The browser’s essentials Status: Done

The sidebar with its Spaces, favorites, pinned tabs and folders; the command bar; Split View up to four pages, Glance and the mini window; tab sleep; Manifest V3 extensions; import from your current browser; protected video. See the 130 features

  2. These last few weeks

    Shipped recently Status: Done

    • “Set up in a few questions” in every category of the Settings, with a summary before anything changes and an Undo button.
    • A cap of tabs awake in the background, and a resource gauge at the foot of the sidebar.
    • The ad and tracker blocker, on from the first launch, with a Standard and a Strict mode.
    • Page translation, done on this Mac.
    • A password manager: an encrypted vault on this Mac, with Touch ID, off by default.
    • Private tabs, tab containers, encrypted DNS and a proxy.
    • Sharing Tweaks, by file or by link.
  3. Now

The alpha, in testing Status: In progress

Lucium 0.2.0 is already in daily use on Macs with an M1 chip or later, but it is an alpha: it is being tested, and things may still change from one version to the next. Report a problem

  4. Now

A last validation Status: In progress

A last validation, linked to the macOS keychain, is under way. The release waits for it to be accepted.

  5. , if all goes well

The disk image for Mac Status: Planned

As soon as the validation is accepted, a signed and notarized disk image (DMG) will be published on the Download page, with the source code in a public repository.

  6. , if the trials go well

    Windows Status: Planned

A first version for Windows. Its package is already configured: it remains to be built and tried.

  7. Right after Windows

    Linux Status: Planned

The Linux version follows close behind; its package is configured too.

  8. Next

    Automatic updates Status: Planned

Lucium can already look for a new version, but no feed is plugged in yet. Until then, each new version is installed by hand, from the Download page.

  9. Next

    Interface finishing touches Status: Planned

A few states remain to be finished: pinned folder open or closed, pinned tab active or hovered, favorite and folder menus, animations, the media player and the light theme of the command bar.

  10. Next

More extensions that work Status: Planned

Wider coverage of the extension APIs, in the order the community reports them, and a check of how extensions behave from a second window. Report an extension

  11. Next

    Intel Macs Status: Under study

A version for Intel Macs is under study. Its package is configured, but has not been built yet.

  12. Later

Your data from one Mac to another Status: Under study

Sync between your Macs, only if it can work with no third-party service and no account. Until then, the encrypted data export moves a profile from one Mac to another.

  13. Later

An iPhone app Status: Under study

In sync with your Mac with no server and no account: your tabs would go straight from one device to the other.

  14. Later

    Passkeys Status: Under study

In Lucium’s password manager, on this Mac.

  15. Up to your votes

The most voted ideas Status: Up to your votes

Every month, the ten most voted ideas are planned, studied or declined, with the reason. See the ideas and vote

What is not planned, by choice

  • An account to create
  • Sync through our servers
  • Telemetry
  • An AI assistant
  • A paid edition or a subscription

The roadmap moves with the community’s votes.
