Frequently asked questions
Short answers, limits included.
Is Lucium really free?
Yes. It is free software (GPL-3.0-or-later), with no paid edition, no subscription and no ads. It is published by ConsilioWEB.
Do I need an account?
No. Lucium asks for no account and no email address. Only the community on this website sends you a code by email, if you want to vote or suggest an idea.
Do my tabs sync between my Macs?
No: there is no sync through a server, by choice. Your data stays on this Mac. Sync with no third-party service and no account is under study; until then, the encrypted data export moves a profile from one Mac to another.
Does Lucium run on Windows, an Intel Mac or an iPhone?
Not for now. Lucium needs a Mac with Apple silicon and macOS 13 or later. Windows is planned for December 2026, if the trials go well, and Linux right after; Intel Macs and an iPhone app are under study. See the roadmap.
Do my extensions work?
You install them from the Chrome Web Store (Manifest V3). Compatibility varies by extension, because Electron only provides part of the extension APIs. Report the ones that break: the most voted come first.
Do protected videos play?
Yes, in the published version, thanks to the protected video module, installed and updated at every launch (see the Privacy page). The best quality depends on the service and is not guaranteed.
This version turns IPv6 off: a site that answers only over IPv6 will not open in it.
Does the Touch ID lock encrypt my data?
No. It is a lock on the interface: it keeps anyone from opening Lucium or a Space without you. Passwords in the vault, on the other hand, are encrypted (AES-256-GCM).
Does Lucium support passkeys?
Not yet.
Is there any AI?
Lucium has no AI assistant. An optional page summary exists, off by default: on your Mac with Ollama, or with the provider of your choice and your own key.
What is Lucium built on?
On Electron, a free framework that embeds a web rendering engine, free as well. Lucium is an independent project, with no link to the maker of any other browser.
How does Lucium update?
Not automatically yet: install the new version from the Download page. Lucium can look for a new version in a feed, but no feed is connected yet.
Where is my data?
On this Mac, in ~/Library/Application Support/arbalette: the folder keeps the project’s former name so nothing gets lost. Nothing is sent to a Lucium server.
Who decides what comes next?
The community suggests and votes. Every month, the ten most voted ideas are planned, studied or declined, with the reason. See the ideas and the roadmap.
How do I report a security issue?
Never on the public board. Write privately to contact@consilioweb.fr with “[Lucium security]” in the subject, or use GitHub’s private reporting (the repository’s Security tab).
Your question isn’t here? Write to contact@lucium.app or ask the community.
